The Need

2016 Kids Count data from the Annie E. Casey Foundation reveals great challenges for the well-being of young people in our region. Over the last decade, poverty rates have risen on both sides of the Mississippi for the over 650,000 kids in Deaconess Foundation’s grantmaking footprint. In the state of Missouri, more than one in five children live in poverty, while 20% of children in the state of Illinois live in poverty.

The Deaconess Foundation tradition is to respond with compassion and imagination to those with the least options. Improving the health of our community is a collective call to action.
